Flotilla 12-3, GLEN COVE, NY

OUR MISSION

Flotilla 12-3 is located in Glen Cove Yacht Club, Glen Cove, NY. Currently our flotilla consists of 20 active members and 1 Operational Facilities. We operate under the direct supervision of USCG Sector New York. Our Area of Responsibilty is North Shore of Long Island from Matinecock Point West into the East River to Mill Rock.We have meetings on the 2nd Friday of every Month and several Social Activities throught the year. We provide free vessel safety checks at local marinas. We also offer boating classes to the public in Queens county. Course offerings include Boating Safety, Navigation, Sailing, etc. Please visit the pages of our website for more detailed information.

Currently we have 1 Qualified Coxswain, 1 Qualified Crew Members, Our Public Education Staff consists of 3 Certified Instructors. In addition we have 2 Qualified Vessel Examiners conducting Vessel Safety Checks and 1 Recreational Boating Safety Visitors.

In 2009 our members participated in 43 hours of Public Affairs Gave 58 Courtesy Examinations of Public Vessels. In addition we held 6 Public Education Sessions for a total of 16 hours.

ABOUT THE COAST GUARD AUXILIARY  

Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in Non-Law Enforcement Programs such as Public Education, Vessel Safety checks, Safety Patrols, Search and Rescue, Maritime Safety and Security and Environmental Protection. Auxiliarists volunteer more than 2 million hours annually.

For members we provide more advanced training in such topics as seamanship, navigation, communications, weather, boat crew, coxswain, etc. This provides the skills necessary to serve and enjoy the fellowship of the Auxiliary.
